Mathematics workshop unites academics across borders and explores Taiwan's natural and cultural treasures

In May 2024, the Department of Mathematics organized a 3-day joint workshop with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Chung Cheng University in Taiwan where academics and PhD students presented their latest research. The topics discussed ranged from analysis and numerical simulations for mathematical models, optimization, learning theory, to graph theory, abstract theory for polynomials and function spaces.

After the workshop, participants went on a 3-day field trip around the local region. The sightseeing locations on this trip spanned from the Alishan region to Sun Moon Lake and Taichung. In the Alishan area, the itinerary included visiting the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, which highlighted natural features such as Sister Ponds, Elephant Trunk Tree, and the Giant Tree Boardwalk. At Sun Moon Lake, the visit included historical sites like Wenwu Temple and Xuanguang Temple, contrasting with the more commercial Ita Thao district. The itinerary also featured cultural stops at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village and Chung Tai Chan Monastery, as well as natural wonders like the Gaomei Wetlands.
