Hong Kong Maritime Museum Features New Coral Species Discovered by Prof Jianwen Qiu’s Team

Professor Jianwen Qiu, Associate Head of the Department of Biology of HKBU, and his research team have published four new species belonging to the sun coral genus Tubastrea in 2021 and 2022. These new species have increased the number of species in the genus around the world from six to ten, illustrating the high coral biodiversity in Chinese waters.

Given the significance of the findings, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum has featured the four species in an exhibition of “Hong Kong Marine Conservation Efforts” from 1 July 2023. More details: https://www.hkmaritimemuseum.org/a-deck.

浸大生物系副系主任邱建文教授及其團隊於2021年和2022年發表四個屬於太陽珊瑚屬Tubastrea的新物種。這些新物種使全球該屬的物種數量從六個增加至十個，顯示出中國海域珊瑚的高度生物多樣性。
